The last words of Jesus in Mark's Gospel are: "Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation."
To fulfill this obligation of our baptism we must have a firm conviction of our faith. "Those who sincerely accept the Good News, through the power of this acceptance and of shared faith, therefore gather together in Jesus' name in order to seek together the Kingdom, build it up and live it. They make up a community which is in its turn evangelizing." (Taken from the Catechetical Documents, #13 page 161)
"All baptized Christians have a right to ongoing faith formation at every stage of life." (CD, pg 535)
The family is called the "Domestic Church" (On Evangelization in the Modern World #71, pg. 47). As the head of the Domestic Church the adults become the primary educators of their children. In order to do this holistically, the adults must themselves be evangelized & educated. It is with this understanding and hope in mind that the parish of St. Helen's Catholic Church seeks to provide all adults; single and married, young and old with the proper formation for a deeper conversion into their faith.
Overall Objectives: To help the Adult learner to "know" and "to grow". To identify goals and objectives of their faith development. Those seeking knowledge and growth will do so in a context of the Catholic religion & within a faith community and its institutions. To own our faith in order that we might better serve the Lord.
Program: Adult education will take on many different forms as determined by the multiple needs of the adult community. The content of the programs will focus on the combined areas of knowledge, skill and attitudes.
Adult education programs consist of:
- Bible study
- Adult Faith Formation
- Marriage preparation
- Parenting workshops
- Retreats
- Spiritual development workshops, seminars & talks
A special form of Adult Formation takes place in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) & the adult sacramental preparation. See Adult Sacrament Preparation for details.
Time: Times will be flexible in order to accommodate the plurality of needs within the community. Schedules will try to meet the needs of those adults who are working full time jobs as well as those who are retired. Weekends as well as weekdays and nighttime as well as during the day. Schedules will be posted per each program.
